Chiles:
As requested I've enclosed my recommendations for reclamation of gout proposed miniaq
operation.
A. POPSOILING
1. Phe areas identified for stockpiling and dumping should be excavated to remove
all existing topsoil far future reclamation. [f topsail rill be stockpiled far an
extended period of time it should 6e vegetated is order to reduce soil loss through
erosion. During reclamation spreading of topsoil should not be done xhen topsoil is
froaen, excessively wet or in a condition that is difficult tc xork. Any sideslopes
receiving topsoil should be 4:1 or flatter.
B. BBYBGHPAPIOA
1. Seedbed Preparation - A clean, reed free seedbed should be established before any
seeding is done. IE soil is compacted, tillage should be completed to breat up
compacted layers to improve rooting depth and rater infiltration. Approximately 2-3
reeks should elapse after the last tillage operation to allox the soil to settle and
firm up before seeding.
2. Plantiaq Period - Seed should be planted, as conditons allex, any tine between
October 15 and April 15 or between July 15 and August 31,
3. Nethod of Planting - Areas tc 6e revegetated can be drilled os broadcast with
seed. If broadcasted, the seed should be spread evenly aver the area using a
mechanical broadcast seeder. the area should then be xorked to cove[ the seed to the
proper depth - 1/! to 1l2 inch.
4, Reeding Mature - Phe attached CO-RCS-S gives the seed mix far revegetation.
Phese rates are fora "Critical Atea Planting" and are 6igAer the standard rate,
The Natural Resources Conservation Service works hand-in-hand with
the American people to conserve natural resources on private lands.
