In addition, Peabody utilized sediment control measures representing the best technology currently
available which included the following:
• 1. A sedimentation pond or a series of sedimentation ponds;
2. Soil surface mechanical manipulation measures that included contour furrowing, chiesel
plowing, etc.;
3. Topographic manipulations that included recontouring or reshaping of graded material in
a manner that minimized the potential for soil erosion;
4. Surface protection measures that included surface stabilizers such as temporary cover
crop, permanent vegetation covers, or geotextile fabrics, etc.;
5. Measures used in conjunction with overland conveyances included check dams, sediment
traps, and water level spreaders;
6. Vegetative filters, temporary cover crops, reestablished permanent vegetation covers, etc.
Siltation structures or sedimentation ponds were utilized for all major disturbed areas, except those
permit areas exempted by regulation. The remaining alternative sediment control methods were
used in conjunction with the siltation sVuctures or, in the case of the permitted areas which are
exempt (e.g., 4.05.2(3) and (4)), they were utilized individually.
The diversion ditches or collection drains in the permit area are the following:
Temporary Ditch
002 Ditch
004 Ditch
005 Ditch
County Road Ditch
Permanent Ditches
Area 1-(1) Ditch
Area 1-(2) Ditch
Area 1-(3) Ditch
Area 1-(4) Ditch
• These ditches are used to transport runoff into sedimentation ponds for treatment in accordance
with the requirements of applicable regulations.
