<br />i <br />UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE <br />Soil Conservation Service <br />Colorado <br />Technical Guide <br />Section IV <br />May 1, 1974 <br /> <br />STANDARD AND SPECIFICATIONS <br />MULCHING (484) <br />(Supplement No. 1) <br />STRAW MULCHING <br /> <br /> <br />STANDARD <br />Definition <br />T <br />Applying straw mulch not produced on the site to the sail surface. <br />Purpose <br />To conserve moisture; prevent surface compaction or crusting; <br />reduce runoff and erosion; and help establish vegetative cover. <br />Where applicable <br />On all soils subject to erosion, but particularly critical areas on <br />the following land uses: <br />Commercial/Industrial <br />Community Services <br />~ Recreation <br />Residential <br />Transportation Services <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />• Site Preparation <br />1. Area should be shaped and graded according to appropriate <br />engineering design. (Omit for temporary stabilization.) <br />2. Remove tree limbs, trash, and other debris. If a mulch <br />netting is to be used to hold straw in place, all rocks <br />larger than four inches in diameter should be removed. <br />3.
