06032
Introduction
Banks and Gesso, LLC
The Denver Brick Company is submitting this Construction Materials Regular (112)
Operation Reclamation Permit application to conduct commercial mineral recovery
activities on property located in Elbert County, Colorado. The operation will be called
the Kiowa Clay Mine. The applicant proposes to extract brick precursors (e.g. red and
buff clays) from the subject property.
The site is located in the south half of Section 19, Township 9 South, Range 61 West, 6`h
P.M., Elbert County, Colorado. The proposed permit boundary contains 400 acres and
approximately 72 acres will be disturbed by mining, with some additional 20 acres
(approximately) disturbed by access roads, stockpiles, and equipment staging.
The surface and subject mineral rights are owned by the Applicant. The property is
currently entitled for mineral extraction in accordance with Elbert County regulations.
The site is also host to an existing livestock lease, subject to the control and right of
cancellation by the Applicant landowner. It is intended that cattle operations will
continue on the property, in areas not subject to mining and within the affected area prior
to the commencement of mining in phases that would disrupt operations. The site will
be compatible with rangeland uses, as it exists today, with appropriate reclamation
planning. The designated post-mining use is rangeland.
Man made structures on or within 200 feet of the affected area include only the County
road and overhead utility line within 200 feet of the entrance point to the property.
The Applicant anticipates no conflicts resulting from environmental considerations. The
site is at the interior of a fenced property, near a ridgeline but largely shielded from the
view of neighboring parcels. We do not anticipate encountering groundwater during the
life of the operation.
The Denver Brick Company January 2007
Kiowa Clay Mine Page 2
