This process will ensure compatibility of c;c>rnmercial <tnd <br />~r•,dustrial uses with surrounding land uses. The specific purposes of I:nr;se <br />r ~gulations are: <br />A. To protect and strengthen the established industries of agricu tore, <br />commerce, industry, tourism, recreation, and to protect props 7y <br />values. <br />'' I -=~. B To protect and strengthen the economic viability of the private rand <br />d•~ >r governmental sectors of the County; <br />' F°~ ~ ~. C. To protect the rural character and visual and aesth~:tic resources of <br />the County and to protect the health, safety, anci welfare <:~f thle <br />people of the County and the State of Colorado. <br />Gravel production is certainly one of the biggest challenges in bsdancing rhe~;;e <br />proposes, because gravel resources are most abundant and available iri river <br />corridors, which are also high in aesthetic and other natural re~~ource v::Iraes. <br />From the economic standpoint, tourism and construction relat~~ct to residential <br />growth are both highly important. The aesthetic qualities of the County r:~ttr•3et <br />^ew residents who increase the demand for gravel resources nereded io t~clilcl <br />and maintain houses, roads, septic systems, businesses and of:her supporting <br />infrastructure;. Road maintenance is also a primary responsit~ility of C:o~anty <br />Government. and performing this service is directly dependent on the avail.at~ility <br />.d CG : of gravel resources. <br />l~hese competing purposes and needs must be reconciled by the juclicio~as <br />application of the Montezuma County Land Use Code which i~• based c;n the <br />Montezuma County Comprehensive Land Use Plan, formula'leci by a <;itizen <br />working group which spent some 18 months formulating a plan to address the <br />
