StarmM'a~er ManaRemenr Plan <br />• for surface water were reclaimed following a demonstration that the reclaimed disturbed area <br />runoff contained less sediment than pre-mine runoff. Sedimentation ponds 001 and 002 now <br />remain as permanent structures at the site to complement post mine land uses of grazing and <br />wildlife habitat. <br />Slurco Corporation has also instituted an annual rill and gully inspection program for the <br />reclaimed mine site. It is conducted in June [o determine if erosion techniques are successful. <br />If gullies or rills more than 9 inches in depth are identified, these are repaired by Slurco <br />Corporation. <br />No sludge or waste disposal occurs at the Reclaimed Canadian Strip Mine as a best management <br />practice. In addition, raw materials are not stored at the site, avoiding drainage from raw <br />material storage areas and no hazardous materials are stored there. <br />To further control pollutants at the Reclaimed Canadian Strip Mine, other management practices <br />will be utilized. While the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency specifies eleven items as <br />significant aspects of stormwater pollution control and management, not all eleven of these <br />practices apply to the Reclaimed Canadian Strip Mine. Those that are implemented are <br />described below. <br />• Sedimentation and Erosion Prevention. Mitigation measures have already been under <br />• taken for the mine site, specifically ponds 001 and 002. <br />• Preventive Maintenance. At the Reclaimed Canadian Strip Mine, preventive maintenance <br />will be practiced at the site [o ensure the proper operation of sedimentation ponds 001 <br />and 002. <br />• Good Housekeeping. The reclaimed mine site will continue to be kept in a clean, orderly <br />fashion. <br />• Non-stormwater Discharges. The plan will include certification that stormwater <br />discharge do not include non-stonttwater discharges. This certification will include all <br />portions of the stormwater system including swales, culverts, and ditches. <br />• Visual Inspection. The plan will include a visual inspection of the Reclaimed Canadian <br />Strip Mine site as part of its annual rill and gully inspection program and NPDES <br />monitoring. <br />• <br />R 1091/7/01--'_J-95p0 56am) ~] <br />
