The Belveal site is
currently native ran geland with a draw to the north, an intermittent stream
along the east with a feed old terraces on south half of site area. Plants
presently growing in clude blue grams, western wheatgrass, green needle, red
three awn, sun sedge and a few yucca.
~
_ Please consider the following recommendations for reclamation.
The Belveal site is located on soil type Stoneham sandy loam, 5 to 18 percent
slopes, map unit is SnE. Capability group is VIe - deep, moderately sandy
soils that have a moderately fine textured or medium textures subsoil. This
is a Sandy Plains range site. Native plant community on this site consists of
75-85$ grasses, 0-188 forbs and 2-16$ shrubs. Vegetation is mainly cool and
warm-season grasses.
Topsoiliag: The current topsoil should be removed and reserved to be used for
reclamation. Topsoil should be spread uniformly over the disturbed area to a
packed depth of 6 inches. This should be 8" - 10" over exposed bedrock. In
event that existing soils have insufficient depth, topsoil shall be brought
in and spread over the deficient areas.
Site Preparatioa: Reclamation of the pit should be made by smoothing all
banks to no more that 2:1 slopes and should be flatter where feasible and
practicable. The topography should be made smooth with no spoil piles or pits
present.
~~ Grass Seeding: Area being reseeded should be treated as a critical area
planting. When area is being reclaimed by broadcasting rather than drilled,
the rates computed shall be doubled to meet seeding recommendations. The
_~ seedbed should be well settled and firm but friable for seed placement. Soils
that have been over-compacted by equipment should be tilled to break up
rooting restrictive layers, then harrowed, rolled or packed to prepare the
required firm seedbed. Grasses should be drilled using a grass drill from
-~ November leC - April 30t° prior to a period of anticipated moisture and after
all other treatment is completed. Recommended planting depth is 'h" to ''/o". See
the attached seeding recommendation (CD-ECS-S) for species amount and variety
to use.
-i
The Natural Resources Conservation Service works hantl-in-hand with
the American people [o conserve natural resources on private lantls AN ECUAL CPPCRTUNIT'/ 7F.
