$IT D
MININ~LAN
The Bear River Sand and Gravel pit has been an area where sand and
gravel have been extracted Car as long as fifty years. The present
operator, Mr. Weber, purcViased the property in 1972 and has conducted
sand and gravel mining on the property continuously from that date.
As in the past, mining will be conducted by the operator using dozers,
front-end loaders and a small dragline to move all material. It is
anticipated that the area will be mined as shown in Exhibit C in four or
five phases over the next fifteen years.
Presently there is very little growth or development occurring in
the area and it is expected that mining will continue on a small scale
fox the next three to four years before a significant turn-around in
the local economy can be anticipated. Within the next two years, mining
activity is expected to be occurring in areas previously disturbed. In
1988 mining activities should commence along the westernmost portion
in the Phase II area and then work northeasterly.
Prior to commencing the mining operation in [his area topsoil will
be removed and stored. As some of this area has been previously mined
it is anticipated that the depth of salvagable topsoil will vary. The
Soil Conservation Service Vias been contacted and will be submitting a
report after field inspection of the area. This report will be included
as Exhibit I in the final permit application. Salvaged topsoil will be
stored along the western boundary of the property. Should the topsoil
stockpiles remain for more than one year, a quick-growing cover crop
will be planted to minimize erosion.
