$IT D <br />MININ~LAN <br />The Bear River Sand and Gravel pit has been an area where sand and <br />gravel have been extracted Car as long as fifty years. The present <br />operator, Mr. Weber, purcViased the property in 1972 and has conducted <br />sand and gravel mining on the property continuously from that date. <br />As in the past, mining will be conducted by the operator using dozers, <br />front-end loaders and a small dragline to move all material. It is <br />anticipated that the area will be mined as shown in Exhibit C in four or <br />five phases over the next fifteen years. <br />Presently there is very little growth or development occurring in <br />the area and it is expected that mining will continue on a small scale <br />fox the next three to four years before a significant turn-around in <br />the local economy can be anticipated. Within the next two years, mining <br />activity is expected to be occurring in areas previously disturbed. In <br />1988 mining activities should commence along the westernmost portion <br />in the Phase II area and then work northeasterly. <br />Prior to commencing the mining operation in [his area topsoil will <br />be removed and stored. As some of this area has been previously mined <br />it is anticipated that the depth of salvagable topsoil will vary. The <br />Soil Conservation Service Vias been contacted and will be submitting a <br />report after field inspection of the area. This report will be included <br />as Exhibit I in the final permit application. Salvaged topsoil will be <br />stored along the western boundary of the property. Should the topsoil <br />stockpiles remain for more than one year, a quick-growing cover crop <br />will be planted to minimize erosion. <br />
