Banks and Gesso, LLC
EXHIBIT G -WATER INFORMATION
Overview
This section describes the existing water features in and around the proposed mining
permit area, potential impacts on water resources due to mining and water requirements
for the project. Local surface water features in the vicinity of the project are shown on
Exhibit B -Index Map and Exhibit C-1: Pre-Mining Map (Man Made Features). A Gravel
Well Permit and Temporary Substitute Supply Plan will be submitted to the Division of
Water Resources for approval.
Surface Water
The nearest major watercourse is the South Platte River, which flows approximately
200 ft east of the site. The Meadow Island Ditch flows through the extreme western
portion of the property, but is located outside of the proposed mining areas. Final
discharge of excess water recovered and clarified from dewatering of excavation areas
on the subject property may be made to the Meadow Island Ditch for ultimate transfer to
the South Platte River. Prior to any discharge activity to the Meadow Island Ditch, the
operator will obtain a CPDS Permit and written permission from the ditch company that
will allow for the use of their ditch for conveying dewatering flows.
Groundwater
Groundwater is present approximately 3 ft below existing grade. Wells located within
600 ft of the permit boundary are shown on Exhibit C-1. Avast majority of the wells
within 600 ft of the permit boundary are alluvial wells, while just a few are aquifer wells.
Refer to Appendix 2 for a list of wells located within 600 ft of the permit boundary.
Mining of the Phase 1 excavation area will be by the dry-mining method. Dewatering
operations will begin prior to excavation of material below existing groundwater levels.
The Applicant has obtained 101 shares of water from the Lupton Meadows Ditch
Company, which will provide approximately 283 acre-ft of water for use in augmentation.
Phase 2 will be wet mined. No dewatering will occur during Phase 2.
Heit Sand and Gravel Mine
SW Meadow, LLC
02044
February 2003
15
