Groundwater System:
Based on information gained by 22 drill holes located
on the. Sunland Mining Corporation leases (hole locations are
plotted on mining plan map is exhibit C) and by mining ex-
perience in the Apex ~1 and. Apex. 42 mines, the area ground-
water system is not expected to be adversely affected by mining
operations.
The only known aquifer existing in our lease area situated
at a horizon reached by.our drilling is the Tow Creek sand-
stone. The Tow Creek sandstone does not outcrop on our lease
area as it is situated below the Blacksmith coal seam. The
Tow Creek sandstone, in all probability, is recharged by Trout
Creek in those locations where it outcrops in the Trout Creek
drainage (see Regional Geologq map in sec- 2~04.~5). No water
flows from any of the drill holes located on our lease area.
Inasmuch as present mining plans do not call for operations
' in the Blacksmith seam, impact on the Tow Creek sandstone by
o.ur mining operations will be minimal.
Groundwater encountered in the present mining operation
is of minimal amount. Groundwater is first encountered in the
Apex ~2 Mine.at the 7350' structural contour of the lower
Pinnacle seam. All mine entries above this structural contour
are dry, and those workings below the 7350' elevation to the
limit of present mining at 7300' elevation produce a very
limited amount of water., Mine water usage is approximately
6000 gal per 24 hour period. Drawing on the sump area of the
D2 mine, which when the mine was active during 1977 extended
from the 7300' elevation to 7315' elevation, steadily reduced
the amount of water standing in the sump. Considering that
an appreciable portion of the water usage by the mine ie "aelf-
recycled^ (that is excess spray water used in the mine finding
its waq back to the sump), the mine nearly holds its own. and
~' should (over the long run) neither require pumping out nor
additional water from the surface.
S$
