1.4
• 1991 PERMIT RENEWAL
In late 1988, coal production and associated activities resumed at the McClane Canyon
Mine. These activities have been continuous since that date. The originally permitted exploration
plan area has nearly been mined out. It is anticipated that the remaining coal in the originally
permitted area will be exhausted in the fall of 1991. An attempt is being made through this
permit renewal and revision process to alleviate this problem and identify the long term mine
reserve and the associated disturbances. Existing permits for the Munger Canyon Mine address
large scale support activities that are to be used for both Munger and McClane Canyon Mines.
Therefore, most of the activity at the McClane Canyon Mine will be underground mining with
minimal surface disturbance.
Increasing the permit term to five years and expansion of the permit boundary to life of
• mine projections are the main objectives of the 1991 revision. Although the exploration of the
original permit area is nearly completed, some questions about the reserve still remain. This
application addresses those concerns and presents alternative scenarios that may be used to
circumvent or minimize those problems.
During the last permit term July 5, 1988 to July 5, 1991 Salt Creek maintained all permits
and authorizations and the mines were maintained properly. Numerous compliance inspections
occurred at the mines (both CMLR and OSM), with no citations issued.

A~ Volume 1 4.29-96
