/yi ~aa3 a/G
U6JP~~~rn
~f~{~
May 15, 2003
To: Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80202
From: William Gee
8995 Road 25
Fort Lupton, CO 80621
C~"~
RECEIVED \
MAY 192003
Division of Minerals and Geolo'y
Re: Heit Sand and Gravel Mine Permit -Located Weld County Road 25 and 20'/z
All Concerned:
Please accept this letter of protest related to above permit request. There are many reasons this
permit should be refused at this time. The most detrimental problem is the truck traffic it will
create in a small area where three existing pits are presently working on a one mile stretch of
Road 25, with an additional mine and pre-mix plant near the intersection of Road 25 and 18.
There have been 2 fatalities and numerous accidents at Road 18 and Highway 85 in the last year, primarily
caused by truck traffic created by gravel trucks and in addition to many oil field trucks. Road 18 is the
only river crossing in this area, causing too much congestion already, without the addition of the Heit mine
which plans to have 156 tracks traveling the same route during daylight hours.
Many other problems will exist such as dust, noise, odor (proposed asphalt plant) wild-life disturbance,
water being eliminated from faun irrigation, water table being interrupted for local domestic wells that are
shallow wells, and water drainage elimination due to reservoir construction and bernt. All this in addition
to the disruption of many homes which enjoy a rural life.
I have lived on the farm just south of the Heit property since 1962 and do not want to move. The additional
problems this mine will create will also hurt real estate values and harm the lifestyle of all local residents.
The water rights being changed from agriculture to commercial (forevermore) will damage the financial
structure of the Lupton Meadow Irrigation Co. and prevent the use of the water by other stock holders.
Also, there are a number of wild-life inhabitants in the area including eagles, deer, geese, ducks, pheasants,
chukars, coyotes,-ard even wild turkey. - -
I know that I have made this letter too long and you probably won't take time to read everything, but
anyhow I want to enclose a recent article published iu our local newspaper that explains the genera] feeling
of all of our neighbors.
Please do not grant this permit in the near future.
Sincerely,
_ i
~V~~%~~
William Gee
/,..L~•r
