Site Eligibility
•
It is our opinion that sites 5GF743, 5GF326, and 5GF879 are not eligible to
the National Register of Historic Places because they do not meet the criteria
for evaluation as outlined in 36 CFR 60.4 and do not appear to have the
potential to further our understanding of prehistory of history.
Sites 5GF1147, 5GF741 and 5GF742 meet the criteria for nomination to the
National Register of Historic Places under 36 CFR 60.6 in that they are likely
to yield information important to the prehistory of the region.
Site Descriptions and Eligibility
SGF1147
•
This site is a complex of prehistoric and historic rock art panels and rock
shelter campsites located at the mouth of Munger Canyon near the base of a
south facing sandstone wall. The pictographs were executed in locally
available reddish/brogan pigments. The panels may represent two aboriginal
cultural horizons - Ute and Fremont, and a historic component most probably
associated with the adjacent ranch site. The Ute pictographs, which
predominate, generally depict hunting scenes. Elements that have been
attributed to the Fremont Culture are in poor condition due to natural washing
and fading, and erosion.
•
