This
being the case, the traffic out of the new site will not be altogether additional
to what already has existed since a large portion of the work that we have done
in the past has been south of Montrose in the Ridgway and Telluride markets.
This has involved the transportation of gravel and hot mixed asphalt from
Montrose along Highway 550.
The Montrose District of the Colorado Department of Transportation reports that
the traffic volume of Highway 550, between Montrose and Colona, consists of more
than 5,000 vehicles per day on an annual basis. It is possible that our proposed
operation may contribute an additional 10 vehicles per day, also on an annual
basis. This additional traffic would amount to a O.2k total increase, which
seems insignificant when compared to the volume that already exists.
Your concern over the welfare of the wildlife in the area is understandable,
particularly with regard to mule deer, which are most susceptible to traffic
related hazards.
United Companies of Mesa County, Inc
