We, as adjacent property owners, appreciate being notified by your office of the application by Mr. Mel
Gunderson. Mr. Gunderson has requested La Plata County Board of Commissioners rescind Resolution
No. 1977-44 on a 19.825 acre tract owned by same.
We would like to officially notify your office and the Board of County Commissioners that we object to
any form of rescinding or alteration of the Resolution adopted by the Commissioners in 1977.
We feel strongly that any action to rescind or modify this Resolution in any way on this piece of property
would definitely NOT be compatible with the agricultural character of the area. The majority of the
property in question is on an extremely steep hillside terrain. Any subdivision for housing development
would have to be accomplished along and accessed by Airport Road (formally County Road 309) which
is the only access to the La Plata County Airport. This properly has significant history of inadequate
water in recent years. The existence of the Resolution was one of the favorable determining factors
resulting in the purchase of our agricultural property prior to Gunderson's arrival.
This particular area of La Plata County is most visible and designated use wise, as agriculture related
with the exception of the airport and small degree of light commercial designation. Compatibility with the
overall agriculture and commercial picture does not support Mr. Gunderson's application.
