Alfaffa is a valuable wildlife species, but our experience has been
that alfalfa will not persist well if there is a fluctuating water table within the root zone. Cicer Milk
Vetch seems more adaptable where seasonal water table changes are expected.
Also we suggest use of switch grass and little biuestem as species valuable for wildlife food.
The wheatgrasses provide cover but are of lesser value as food. Tall wheatgrass should do
well on the salty sites.
Sincerely,
1~~ 1~~~
Roy Ro~, Soil Conservationist
Fremont Soil Conservation District
Cc: Joan Adair, President, SCD
File Code: (Roy) Castle Concrete Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit
CONSERVATION -DEVELOPMENT -SELF-GOVERNMENT
