• Hydroxide Monitoring
As noted during past discussions with the Division, CEC has
conducted hydroxide monitoring as part of the program in the past.
However, based upon discussions with ACZ laboratories, it is our
understanding that hydroxide values are simply a calculation based
upon the titration testing done for alkalinity. Given that ACZ
keeps laboratory results for a seven year period, and that
hydroxide values could be calculated from the alkalinity testing
information kept on record, previous data values can be obtained if
needed. According to ACZ, there is rarely any hydroxide present
unless the pH exceeds 10.0, and based upon standard methods there
can not be any hydroxide unless the pH is greater than or equal to
8.3. As such, CEC has historically shown monitoring values of zero
for most sampling instances. Given that the hydroxide is not
considered to be a significant item of concern based upon past
monitoring, CEC ceased monitoring and reporting of hydroxide
• values as part of TR 94-23.
•
TR 94-23 Ex.29-4a Revised 3/14/94
