1

1
' MINING PLAN
E%HIBIT D
T}~e Distel Farm Resource will be used by C & M Companies as a
' source for concrete sands, fill material, and ag gregates. The
a~~plicant owns a portion of the property and holds mineral leases
' for the remainder. The general
a:~ong St. Vrain Creek, south of location of the
State Highway 119 mining area is
and west of Del
Camino. The total area of prope rty to be mined is 114 acres.
' Tl~e Distel Farm property will be mined using dry mining
techniques. Any groundwater intercepted during the mining
operation will be pumped from the open pit and discharged to St.
Vrain Creek. A stationary plant site will be located near the
' s~~utheast corner of the permit for processing and stockpiling
material. If groundwater inflow into the pit becomes to
' v~3luminous
methods to to handle efficiently the operator
wet mining by dragline. may change mining
The material to be extracted on this property is sand and gravel.
' The nature of the stratum is typically a layer of topsoil ranging
from 0 to 7-1/2 feet in thickness overlaying a sand and gravel
deposit that ranges in thickness from 1 to 17 feet. A claystone
bedrock is encountered from 6 to 19 feet below ground. There are
' iinterspersed lenses of clays and silts deposited by St. Vrain
Creek. Bore logs taken in October, 1983 encountered groundwater
at a depth of 4 to 8 feet below the ground surface. Given that
' t!ne borelogs were taken at a late time period of the year, it is
reasonable to assume groundwater can be much higher during the
spring and summer months.
' The sand and gravel in this area is cataloged by t he Colorado
Geologic Survey in a 1974 report titled Sand, Gravel and Quarry
Resources; Colorado Front Range Counties. St V rain Creek
' deposits are recognized as a valuable mineral resour ce and the
aggregates are classified as high quality.
' Mining will be done by phases. The land area opened for mining
will be limited to only that necessary to satisfy market demands.
Mineral extraction is currently projected to be 200,000 tons per
' year. Average material depths range from 5 feet to 17 feet of
material. Maximum disturbance in the open pit will be limited to
8 acres.
1
t
1
D-1
