MEMO to Bruce Humphries
September 16, 1997 -Agile Objectors & Issues
Page 4
21. Possible affects of the proposed project on recreation and tourism industries are not
addressed.
22. The pro oP sed project should give some consideration to the effects of the mine on
visual resources end riparian habitat. M.ys~
~~) Blasting, crushing, screening and loading will create a severe noise problem
affecting the experience of area visitors.
24. The operation will have a negative impact on Bighorn Sheep.
25 It is premature to place complete reliance on the transportation of the product
almost entirely upon a potentially unavailable rail service.
26. The sediment control plans are not adequate to prevent damage to wetlands and
the Canon City water supply.
27. The flood plain level of Tallahassee Creek was not addressed in the lay-out of the
crusher and mill sites.
28. There is no reclamation process available for bench-cut mining of the mountain--
only scarring.
29. The hours of operation.
30. The operator is only proposing to utilize corrugated metal pipe culverts to construct
road railroad crossings of Tallahassee Creek.
31. The proposed project should not be approved until the applicant has obtained a
plan for augmentation or an approved substitute water supply plan to replace
depletions caused by the pumping of groundwater from a well.
32 Washing down the dust from the gravel pit operation with 30,000 gallons per day
of water is not a good use of a limited resource. Where is the water to come from
and who has the senior and junior rights to this water?
33 Objection to the location of the proposed mining operation.
34 Over 70 commercial outfitters are dependant on the Parkdale site, trading a clean
industry for a dirty one which will only profit a few. We ought not to let this
happen.
