<br />• <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Exhibit B -Site Description <br />Baller Series <br />The Bailer series consists of shallow, hell drained <br />soils that formed in material u-eathered from sand- <br />stone. These soils are on uplands and are underlain by <br />bedrock at a depth of 10 to 20 inches. Elevation ranges <br />from 5,400 to 6,800 feet. Slopes are 5 to 45 percent. <br />The native vegetation is mainly big and little bluestem, <br />blue grams, side-oats grams, mountainmahogany, and <br />a few scattered ponderosa pine. Mean annual precipi- <br />tation ranges from la to 17 inches, mean annual air <br />temperature ranges from 47' to 49° F, and the frost- <br />free season ranges from 135 to 150 days. <br />In a representative profile the surface layer is dark <br />grayish brown stony sandy loam about 6 inches thick. <br />The subsurface layer is dark grayish brown very stony <br />sandy loam about a inches thick. Below this is hard <br />sandstone. <br />Permeability is moderately rapid, and the available <br />water capacity is lo~v. Reaction is neutral. <br />These soils are used for native grasses. <br />Representative profile of Bailer stony sandy loam in <br />an area of Bailer-Rock outcrop complex, 15 to 45 per- <br />cent slopes, in native grass, about 1,050 feet tivest and <br />1,650 feet north of the southeast corner of sec. 32, T. <br />7 N., R. 69 R .: <br />Al---0 to 6 inches; dark grayish brown (lOYR <br />4/2) stony sandy loam, eery dark gray- <br />ish brown (lOYR 3/2j moist; weak to <br />moderate fine granular structure; soft, <br />very friable; 25 percent stones and cob- <br />bles; noncalcareous; neutral; clear <br />smooth boundary. <br />AC-6 to 11 inches; dark grayish brown (lOYR <br />4/2) very stony sandy loam, very dark <br />grayish brown (IOYR 3/2) moist; mas- <br />sive; soft, very friable; 60 percent stones <br />and cobbles; noncalcareous; neutral. <br />R-11 inches; hard sandstone bedrock. <br />The A horizon is sandy loam or fine sandy loam and <br />contains 35 to 70 percent stones or cobbles, mainly of <br />sandstone. Reaction ranges from slightly acid to mildly <br />alkaline. <br /> <br />
