linear features trending north 65° west directly through
,• the area of the present underground mine. Field checks
in the area show many joints in the area which approximately
parallel this zone and one fracture which has apparently
already been encountered in the underground workings.
Careful tracing of exposed outcrops along this trend
reveal no substantial offset on other linear trends
within this zone."
Again, Mr. Marrs observations', when carried to the field,
indicate that where some faulting is apparent with significant
offset; the trace cannot be followed physically in any
direction for more than a few hundred feet.
With the results of these studies in hand, in addition to
the work done in 1978 by J.B. Ivey, field mapping was conducted
to verify the location of faults. The surface expression of
the first fault was easy to locate. In one area, however, it
could not be traced in any direction for more than about 300
feet. Empire had been aware of this fault for several
years. Another fault was found on the surface, and two
points on each fault were surveyed and are plotted on Exhibit A.
The "other" fault is actually the third fault encountered.
The second fault has never been found on the surface.
