CONCLUSIONS <br />A Class III cultural resource inventory of approximately 1330 acres of the Elk Creek Lease <br />Exploration Project in Gunnison and Delta Counties was conducted by WCRM, Inc. on May 23- <br />24`' and July 9~', 20D1 for Oxbow Mining, Inc. The Project Area is located on federal and private <br />lands. It is situated north/northwest of Somerset, Colorado and will be directly and indirectly <br />impacted by drill site construction and road building and use. The survey was conducted so that <br />NRHP evaluations and recommendations could be made with regazd to cultural resources located <br />during the course of the inventory. <br />No cultural resources have been previously recorded within the Project Area. Two historic site <br />segments were recorded during the cowse of the pedestrian survey. A segment of the Fire <br />Mountain Canal (SGN3711.1) is recommended eligible under Criterion A as a contributing <br />element to a potentially eligible Fire Mountain Canal System. If this segment of the canal will be <br />disturbed, it is recommended that a thorough photo-documentation following BLM standazds <br />(bevel II) of the portion of the canal to be impacted be completed prior to impact. Also, a <br />segment (SGN] 66l .2) of the officially determined eligible D&RGW Railroad is also <br />recommended eligible under Criteria A and C as a contributing element to the railroad.
