• ENVIRONMENTAL AND LANDOWNER/LEASOR PROTECTION
Vehicular travel will be restricted to routes and time periods when rutting of the
land surface and excessive damage to the vegetation will not occur.
All gates will be left open or closed, as found. Livestock will not be harassed and
measures will be taken to prevent livestock injury during the proposed exploration
activities.
Ignition of wildfires from the drilling operation is very unlikely. All equipment is
in good operating condition and will be positioned at the sites such that manifolds and
exhaust systems are not in contact with vegetation. Tall vegetation (such as sagebrush)
will be clipped as necessary to eliminate fire hazards. Vehicles will be equipped with
fire extinguishers and, if necessary, the drilling crew's water truck will be made
available.
• Hazards created from flooding are remote. The drill rig will be equipped with a
packer insert, however, in the unlikely event that artesian flow becomes unmanageable.
Activities in the stream floodplains will occur when soil moisture conditions
permit access to the site without damage to the land surface. No dams or
embankments will be created that could potentially impact the streamflows.
Wildlife will not be threatened, harassed, or otherwise endangered during the
operation. P&M has conducted a thorough study of wildlife in the Twentymile Park
Area. One species has been observed which is listed as endangered by the Colorado
Division of Wildlife. The species, the Greater Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis), is
known to nest in the general region. One pair had been observed nesting in Section 9,
T5N, R86W, which will not be impacted by the proposed operation. No other species of
wildlife listed as threatened or endangered by either the Colorado Division of Wildlife
or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are known to inhabit the area.
The Colorado Historical Society was contacted for information regarding the
• archeological/cultural sites in the proposed exploration area. Section 2 contains site
5RT00113A and Section 22 contains sites 5RT00028A, 5RT00031A and 5RT00177A.
PR-31-16 -16-
6/10/83
