• VEGETATION
Studies of vegetation in the Twentymile Park area were conducted in the summer
of 1979. Mapping of vegetation types and description of plant communities were
components of those studies.
Six major vegetation types are found on the proposed Fish Creek exploration area:
(1) Sagebrush-Cinquefoil, (2) Mountain Shrub, (3) Sagebrush-Snowberry, (4) Aspen
Woodland, (5) Smooth Brome, and (6) Cultivated Lands. Following are descriptions of
the six vegetation types found in the proposed exploration area.
SAGEBRUSH-CINQUEFOIL TYPE
The dominant species within this vegetation type are silver sagebrush (Artemisia
cana) and shrubby cinquefoil (Pentaphylloides floribunda). Other commonly associated
species include Agassiz bluegrass (Poa agassizensis), western yarrow (Achillea lanulosa),
• Drummond rush (Juncus drummondii), various species of sedges (Carex spp), common
dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), and Oregon fleabane (Erigeron speciosus). In 1979,
percent vegetation cover was 87.
MOUNTAIN SHRUB TYPE
The dominant species within this type are Gambel oak ( uercus gambeiii),
Saskatoon serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia), common chokecherry (Prunus
virginiana), and mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos oreophilus). These above species
exist as a mixture of varying proportions. Associated species include Agassiz bluegrass,
big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata), aspen peavine (Lathyrus leucanthus), American
vetch (Vicia americana), and such weedy species as common dandelion, houndstongue
(Cynoglossum officinalis), and tall nettle (Urtica dioica). In 1979, percent vegetative
cover for this type was 83.
PR-31-6 -6-
6/10/83
