1

EXHIBIT D
Geology
Siloam Mine
t The Siloam Pit is located within the lower Cretaceous Dakota sandstone,
an interbedded beach sand and mud deposit laid down in a tropical swamp envir-
' onment by an encroaching epicontinenta] sea. Carbon residues from plant
decomposition give the clay strata their dark color. At Siloam, the clay
seam is 11 to 14 feet thick and the sandstone overburden is 8.5 to 13 feet
' thick. About 7 feet of lower Cretaceous IJiobrara marine shale, the first
deposit of the epicontinental sea, overlies the Dakota sandstone. All
1 strata are essentially horizontal.
1

LJ

1

1
1
1
