Water Quality
• Surface water in Bolton Draw and its tributaries results
directly from snow melt and precipitation runoff. As such,
it generally is not as high in TDS and salts as is water
residing in the shallow, weathered bedrock surface. Water
derived from the drainage up gzadient of the lease
tract is thought to be of adequate quality for irrigation
usage; however, no water quality samples have as yet been
collected. These will be collected as runoff in the
ephemeral streams begins in the spring.
Surface Water Monitoring
Two surface water monitoring stations are to be installed
on the lease tract. The first will be a weir located in
the drainage bottom on the east lease boundary, as shown on
Plate 1. This weir will monitor discharges from the drainage
above the lease area. The second weir will be installed
just below the sediment control pond and will monitor any
' discharges from the pond and consequently the disturbed
area. The first weir will be monitored on a weekly basis
when flows are evident. The second weir will be monitored
daily during any periods of discharge.
Water quality samples will also be secured from these two
monitor points. Point 1 will be sampled quarterly and
point 2 will be sampled at those frequencies required by the
• 16
