779.16 SURFACE WATER INFORMATION
•
General Setting
The 90-acre Wyoming Fuel Co. lease tract lies on the upper
end of Bolton Draw, a tributary of the Canadian River,
and ultimately of the North Platte River system. Most of
the water in the Canadian River is developed from snowmelt
in the higher mountains to the east, however, some contribu-
tion is made by Bolton Draw and similar drainages which
collect snowmelt and water from precipitation events on
the floor of the park.
Drainage Basins
Bolton Draw drains an area of approximately 10.6 square
miles. As plotted on Plate IV, the drainage is bounded on
the north and east by the Canadian River, on the south by
the Michigan River and on the west by Bush Draw. Flow
in the drainage is generally northward, intercepting the
Canadian River in Sec. 31, T9S, R79W.
The 90-acre lease area drains into a small arm extending
southwestward from the main channel of Bolton Draw.
Approximately 1.8 sq.mi „ Zones III, IV and V on Plate IV,
are drained by this arm of Bolton Draw up gradient of the
lease area. Zone III will not be affected by the mining
13
