Cotoracfo 80203 Tel. 13031 892-3567 <br />M E M O R A N D U M <br />T0: Mined Land Reclamation Board <br />FROM: Ptined Land Reclamation Staff -- P1ark Heffner <br />SUBJECT: Application for permit - Delta Sand and Gravel Pit /l3 <br />DATE: March 22, 1977 <br />The following is an outline of the 110 application to be presented for your <br />consideration at the 3-22 or 3-23 Board meeting. <br />APPLICANT'S NAME AND ADDRESS: <br />ACE AND MINERAL OWNERS: <br />Delta Sand and Gravel; Delta, Colo. <br />Jack and Thelma Starner (also <br />operator's of Delta Sand and Gravel) <br />TYPE OF OPERATION: <br />LOCATION: <br />SIZE OF AFFECTED LANDS: <br />PRESENT LAND USE: <br />FUTURE LAND USE: <br />GENERAL DESCRIPTION: <br />RECLAh1AT ION <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Sand and Gravel <br />Just north of Paonia on the south <br />side of the Northfork of the Gunnison <br />River. <br />9 acres. <br />Gravel mining. <br />Small lake and river course <br />A podion of the area is presently <br />being mined. The rest of the area <br />is bottomland forest or previously <br />disturbed and re invaded by willows. <br />Delta does not plan on mining the <br />areas that are not presently affected <br />unless there is a very dry year that <br />prevents flooding and gravel replenish- <br />ment. It is anticipated all mining <br />will occur in the stream bed area that <br />has already been affected. <br />Natural reclamation via the river <br />course and natural revegetation would <br />be the plan if only stage 1 is mined. <br />If stages 2 and/or 3 are mined then <br />the banks would be sloped and planted <br />with Russian Olive and Cottonwoods. As <br />said befo[e, it is not anticipated <br />stages 2 or 3 would ever be mined. <br />to be made at Board meeting. <br />
