4-30 <br />• The manual uses the Log-Pearson Type III distribution for <br />fitting a frequency curve to gaging station data and multiple <br />regression techniques for regionalization, that is, for <br />transferring the results to ungaged basins. The methods were <br />developed from a flood-frequency analysis of gaging station <br />data and a multiple regresision analysis of flood characteris- <br />tics and basin and climatic parameters of 258 gaged basins <br />in Colorado and adjacent states. The basin and climatic <br />parameters used in the study to drive flood information at. <br />ungaged sites were selected based on the results of trial <br />regressions using gaging stations with 25 or more years of <br />record. The manual divides Colorado into four flood-character- <br />• istic regions. <br />The East Salt Creek drainage basin (Figure 4.5-1) lies in a <br />mixed-populations or transitional flood zone between the <br />mountain region, in which flooding is predominantly caused by <br />spring snowmelt runoff, and the Southern Plateau Region. The <br />Munger Creek drainage area lies entirely within the Southern <br />Plateau Region, which comprises most of Southern Colorado <br />including the tributaries of the Colorado River up to an <br />elevation of 7,500 feet. <br />Peak discharges for stream reaches of interest were calculated <br />according to the procedures for ungaged sites on natural-flow <br /> <br />
