Johnson
Coe, Van Loa & Jashke Engineering, Inc .
730 West Hampden Avenue, Suite 300
Englewood, CO 80110
' RE: Shaffers Crossing Sand and Gravel Permit: Archaeological
Resources
Dear Mr. Johnson:
' A search was conducted of the archaeological site files
maintained by the Office of the State Archaeologist in response
to your request for information on any known or documented
archaeological properties located in Township 6S, Range 71W,
' Section 32, in Jefferson County.
No archaeological sites are listed in our records for the
' above area.
Additionally, there are no archaeological sites pending
' nomination to or on the National Register of Historic Places in
the proposed project location.
However, our files are by no means complete as the vast majority
' of Colorado has not been inventoried. There is always the
possibility that there are archaeological resources within the
proposed project that have not been identified.
Since there is State involvement in this proposed project,
the State agency involved must comply with State laws regulating
' Cultural Resource Management, such as the State Antiquities Act of
1973 (CRS 1973, 24-80-401 to 410) and, especially, the State Register
of Historic Places Act of 1975 (CRS 1973 , 24-80 .1 to 108) which
requires (1) properties within the impact area should be identified
' and evaluated for inclusion in the State Register (24-80 .1-104 ) , and
(2) the effect of the proposed project on eligible properties
determined. All actions require notification of the State Historical
Society (State Archaeologist) . (Refer to the enclosed legislation . )
i
I
