The subsoil is about 1-I inches of eobbly cla}- loam or eobbly clue (fig. 5). Lulndcd with this soil in mapping is a Valmont-like soil that is rndder than this soil, that has less than 10 percent gravel and cobblestones, and that contains some deptes.,ions suppnrtin_ no vegetation and having a crusted surface lacer. Also inclnrled are small areas of Val- mont clay loam. ~ to 5 percent slopes. These included soils malre itp about 15 percent of rich mapped area. Runoff is medium on this soil. The erosion hazard is sligbt to moderate. This soil is not well suited to cultivation and the har- vesting of crops because it has too mane cohblestrmes and too mnrL grn•cl on its surface. It is. however. a good gnss•pmdneing soil. .lfost of the acrea_e is used for native ranee. A few small areas are used for irrigated pasture. In most places it is in long, narrow areas more than 30 acres in size. The profile of this soil is much like the one described as represe.ntatire for the series, but the surface layer is abrnlt 6 inches of cobbl}• clay loam. The subsoil is about 1~ inches of cobbl}- clay or clay loam. There are varying nmonnts of gncel and cobblestones throughout the pro- file. Inclndcd with this soil in mopping are a few small areas of a Valmont-like soil that has a layer of gravel at a depth of more than ~0 lochs:. A few minor auras hove shale or sandstone nnderlving the very gravelly layers within a depth of -l0 inches from the surface. Also included are some small areas of Valmont eobbly clay loam. 1 to 5 percent slopes. Included soils make np nbnut ?0 percent of earl mapped area. Runoff is medium to rapid on this soil.
