EXHIBIT J -VEGETATION INFORMATION
Present vegetation types
Ecotone Corporation and Plantae Consulting Services prepared a "Wetland Finding Report" for this
property. Their description of existing vegetation follows.
The majority (89.2%) of the property comprises upland areas primarily used for agricultural
purposes including pasture, hay production and row crops. The hay field areas aze dominated by
pasture grasses such as fescue, smooth brome, bluegrasses, orchard grass and timothy. Where
upland areas are grazed by cattle, native grasses such as western wheatgrass, Canada wild rye and
bentgrass occur with the pasture grass species. These grazed areas also tend to support a
complement of noxious weeds, including diffuse knapweed, yellow toadflax, Dalmatian toadflax,
cheatgrass, Canada thistle, mullein and houndstongue.
The wooded portion of the site supports a canopy dominated by plains cottonwood trees. Less
common canopy trees include crack willow, Russian olive, green ash, black locust and Chinese elm.
The forest understory is composed of the native and pasture grasses described above. Some
understory areas also support a number of the previously listed weeds.
Relationship ojpresent vegetation types to soils types
According to the United States Department of Agriculture Soils Conservation Service's Soi! Survey
ojBoulder Countv.9rea, Colorado (issued January 1975), the best-suited vegetation for each soil
type is as follows:
Niwot Soils (Nh)
This soil is best suited for use as pasture or meadow due to high water table and the depth to
sand or gravel. In some small areas may be used for irrigated crops.
Nunn Clay Loam (NuB)
This soil type is used £or irrigated crops and pasture as well as dryland crops.
Loveland Soils (Lv)
This soil type is suitable for irrigated crops or pasture.
Terrace Escarpments (Te)
Terrace Escarpments are not suited to cultivation. It is used for native range.
Valmont Clav Loam (VaC)
This soil type is used for irrigated and dryland crops and for pasture.
Nunn-Kim comnlex (Nv)
This complex is used for irrigated crops and pasture.
These soil types are delineated on the Existing Conditions Map.
AGGREGATE INDUSTRIES, INC. - FREDSTROM SITE 112 PERMIT PAGE -39-
