ROCKY MOUNTAIN CONSULTANTS, INC.
500 COFFMAN STREET. SUITE 10T, LONGMONT. COLORADO 60501
7T2~5282 or 665-6283 (METRO)
October 19, 1982
REVIEW OF THE FLOOD POTENTIAL FOR
WESTERN PAYING'S COTTONWOOD FARM PROJECT
IN WELD COUNTY, COLORADO
Introduct•fon:
This report is prepared as a review of the intermediate flood (100-year), the
standard project flood (500-year) and the effect of the proposed project operation on
these flood flows.
Intermediate Regional Flood:
The -intermediate regional flood for Boulder Creek has a flow of approximately
11,000 cf<-; and crosses a sm;.ll portion of the western side of the proposed Cottonwood
Farm proje~et. The location of the discharge from this intermediate regional flood
will not be changed by this project. The intermediate regional flood for Idaho
Creek, which traverses the property, is 150 cfs and is to be channeled around the
edge in a ditch and then discharged at the point which it has historically left the
• property. Therefore, during times of the intermediate regional flood there will be
( no significant changes in the flows from this property compared to the historical
pattern.
Standard Project Flood:
A standard project flood for Boulder Creek historically would inundate virtually
all of the Cottonwood Farm property including Idaho Creek. A berm is to be con-
structed around the northeast portion of the property which will divert approxi-
mately 800 cfs of this flow further east. The flow for this standard project flood
in Boulder Creek is .21,000 cfs. Therefore, the 800 feet is considerably less than
10 percent of the total flow.
Direction of Stream Flow:
The direction of flow in Boulder Creek will not be changed in any way by this
project because the project is entirely east of Boulder Creek. The flow of Idaho
Creek will be interrupted where it has historically entered the property and chan-
neled around the project and then be discharged where it has historically left the
property. There will be no channeling or other disturbance to Boulder Creek.
ROCKY MOUN AIN ~GONSUL•T,{u1T5, INC.
~~ ~ ,o `~,
/ ~•.
1?~-
n Rol 1 i ~ P~ E,, ~ : _
1 • ~mw ~, r ,n ~ .
. • ,,
~.~ ..
