• content ranges from 0.42.5%. The A horizon contains the highest amounts of organic matter. <br />Available phosphorus ranged from 1-40 ppm. The highest concentrations were found in the A horizon <br />which will be used for reclamation. The B horizon contains much lower concentrations. <br />Available sodium waz found to range from 0.140.32 meq/1. These concentrations are low and <br />will no[ be any problem az far az revegetation is concerned. Available calcium ranged from <br />0.82 - 4.44 meq/I. The highest quantities of calcium are found in the A horizon of alJ three soil series. <br />Thus there appears to be more than enough plant-available calcium for reclamation. The magnesium <br />content ranged from 0.21-0.93. The highest concentrations aze Eound in the A horizon. More than <br />enough plant-available magnesium seems to be present. The sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) ranges from <br />0.11 - 0.49. These values are very low and won't pose any problem in reclamation. <br />The texture is variable through the soil profile. Most of the soil profiles have clay accumulations in the <br />B horizon. The A horizons appear to have been eluviated. The texture in the A horizons contain less <br />clay and are more suitable for reclamation az far az physical and chemical properties are concerned. <br />The soil survey map located in zhe Appendix shows the soil sample (description) locations and topsoil <br />stripping depths. During mine development, cut stakes specifying topsoil removal depths were used <br />[o guide equipment operators. Stripping depths were determined in the field by the Environmental <br />Engineer prior to stripping. <br />Suitability of Soil Horizons for Reclamation <br />• Each soil series and each horizon waz evaluated for suitability for reclamation.
