U
-56- •
Turner: Right. Ones since the 1973 law.
Pring: So, both active and inactive since 1973.
Turner: Well, this is the issue whether there's violations or not and I've
got to bite the bullet on it.
Ward: response there, that's not tractable, you can't ....
Rindahl: I don't think so, I don't know if even the current staff of
Nielsons knows what was mined since the first of July, 1973.
If you're going to require them to do that then I think you're
giving them and us a situation we can't cope with.
Turner: Well, didn't they just say two or three, that's what I heard.
Rindahl: You're going back to '73 now, and we can go back in that area
and find abandoned pits that have started revegetating already.
Is that one that may have been mined on the 1st of July, 1973,
that now you're putting in to this motion to come in and have
them get a permit and a bond?
Turner: I don't know about those. I thought that they had two or three
that were being operated. And that the others were perspective
land holdings that they have, that they may file for future
permits.
Rindahl: But what you've said is any operation, then you said back to 197,
now you're giving us a situation where we're going to have to go
out and look over the whole state and find out where they may ha e
mined on the 1st of July of '73 or later, which actually is the
proper way to do it, we can't do it. we can't do it. S4e just
don't have the staff to do it, and the current legislature did n t
give us an additional staff for the impact of this particular la .
