For five years later cyanide was
still entering the Rito Seco and it was coming from
underground, and this is from a small mine.
Earth Sciences did specimen studies
and they showed very little cyanide. The c'~olorado
Department of Health would come and check and they
did not concur.
Seven years later cyanide i:~ still
entering the Rito Seco at significant levels. Earth
Sciences resorted to letters saying in April of 1981,
which is six and a half years later -- six years
later -- they are saying that vandalism by the
community is causing some of these high readings.
There were erratic readings, still
seven years later. Earth Sciences suggested that it
was sabotage. I am not making this up. I am under
oath. I have the documents.
Battle Mountain is renting the
property from Earth Sciences. They pay them
a monthly rent, or whatever it's called, and
royalties, and they say that the old heap leach pad
is detoxified, and I'll tell you we find that hard to
believe. Their credibility with us is very low, and
it is sad that Battle Mountain is working with them.
(First slide.)
