i Enfield pit (E-pit), located on the eastern boundary of the Derringer pit mining area and at the divide of No
Name and Johnson Gulch watersheds, will remain idle (temporarily abandoned) during the 2003-2007
permit term. It will remain open to be used as a future ash disposal site. Final reclamation in Enfield Pit
will occur when its ash disposal capacity is used up (in approximately 2014). See Section 3.5.5 for a
description of temporary abandonment.
East Flintlock Pit Mining Area
East Flintlock pit is located in the East Pyeatt, Oak, West Flume, Middle Flume and Horse drainages.
Previous cuts in this pit were dug by the Baby Doe and were strike line pits located primarily in the East
Pyeatt and Oak drainages. The Molly Brown is and will continue these strike line cuts advancing to the
south for the remainder of the 2003-2007 permit term. Refer to the M10 series maps for a yearly detail of
the mining and reclamation sequences for the 2003-2007 permit term.
Flintlock Pit Mining Area
The Baby Doe dragline has been the primary stripping machine for this area. Located in the East Pyeatt
drainage, mining in these F-pit dip line cuts will advance to the east for the entire 2003-2007 permit term.
Refer to the M10 series maps for a yearly detail of the mining and reclamation sequences for the 2003-
2007 permit term.
Gatling Pit Mining Area
The Gatling pit (G-pit) is located in the southeastern region of the permit area at the headwaters of the
Flume Gulch and Deal Gulch watersheds. The initial overburden removal in G-pit was accomplished by
• the Queen Anne in the G-pit strike line test pit area located in the Oak, West Flume and Middle Flume
drainages. Overburden removal in the test pit area continued with the Molly Brown after the completion of
Derringer pit. Two dip line cuts are planned !o be completed in 2002 by the Queen Anne in the far east
portion of Gatling pit located in the Middle Flume and East Flume drainages. The Queen Anne, upon
completion of Ashmore East pit in 2003, will walk to a boxcut in the Gatling pit mining area, located in
Middle Flume drainage and begin strike line cuts advancing to the south for the remainder of the 2003-
2007 permit term. On the west side of Gatling pit are located a series of proposed dip line cuts.
Sequencing and timing of these cuts is yet to be fully developed but initial study indicates a possible
connection with the adjoining East Flintlock pit cuts. Refer to the M10 series maps for a yearly detail of
the mining and reclamation sequences for the 2003-2007 permit term.
Hawken Pit Mining Area
Mtning in Hawken pit (H-pit) was completed in April 1997. After performing reclamation activities, the
Queen Anne dragline walked to Ashmore pit in May 1997. Refer to the M10 series maps for a yearly
detail of the mining and reclamation sequences for the 2003-2007 permit term.
Ithaca Scraper Pit Mining Area
There is no mining scheduled for Ithaca pit (I-pit) during the 2003-2007 permit term. This area was
originally projected to affect previously disturbed and reclaimed but unmined land. It was to be located on
the northern fringes of the old Ashmore pit located in the Coyote watershed.
•
3-15a Revision: m~-lyo .
-=lpprCVS!1: ~~1ZI ~-~-
