MRR-24-99 10:18 FROM: DIU.WILDLI~WEST RG 970-255-6111 70:9:038329106 PRGE:004
Migratory bird impacu from the ponds et the Piceaace end Parachute sites can be eampktely eliminated by
netting ponds with the potential to develop hyper-saline water conditions eazly in the life of the project.
Impacts to nesting rapmrs at the Piceanec site can be partially avoided by timing and surface occupancy
restrictions during active nesting. The larger stands ofpinyon-juniper with higher-density canopies arc
important nesting areas. Avoidance of these areas to the extent possible, as discussed above for mule decr,
and subsequent reintroduction of trees into cleared areas after well pane! abandonment will be very
important in maintaining the ability of these stands to support nesting raptors after rcclamation.
CDOW looks forward to workhtg with BLM and American Coda to develop final reclamation
rccoromendations along the pipeline and for each abandoned well pwel at the Piceance site. Thank you
for the opportunity to comment oa American Soda's reclamation permit.
tncrrely
James R. Bennett
West Regional Manager.
