• Traffic counts and projections also indicate a need to improve the <br />highway in order to handle anticipated future volumes of traffic and reduce <br />traffic accidents by improving the safety aspects of the highway (Modern <br />2-lane with paved shoulders). <br />Benefits <br />With average daily traffic as shown above already in existence in <br />the Corridor and with future rapid growth due to the development of the <br />coal industry, the inadequacy of the safety and geometries of the existing <br />highway is indicated. The improvement of the highway east of Paonia <br />Reservoir will also increase the use of McClure Pass which will add <br />additional traffic to State Highway 133 in the valley of the North Fork. <br />• The benefits will also be significant from the standpoint of safety in <br />handling impeded traffic volumes through grade separations of highway <br />and railroad. <br />• <br />
