If the conditio f the range deteriorates,~eatgrass, broom
snakeweed, Fendler threeawn, and annual sunflowers increase. Where
~ the ran a is in
g poor condition, these plants are dominant. Grazing
should be managed so that the desirable balance of species is
maintained in the plant community.
If the range vegetation is seriously deteriorated, seeding is
needed. For successful seedings, a seedbed should be prepared and the
seeds drilled. The plants selected for seeding should meet the
seasonal requirements of livestock or wildlife, or both.
The management practices suitable for use on this unit are proper
grazing use and a planned grazing system. Brush management improves
deteriorated areas of range that are producing more woody shrubs than
were present in the potential plant community.
This unit provides wildlife habitat for mule deer, cottontail,
- hawks, and eagles.
~ This unit is well suited to irrigated crops. Irrigation water can
be applied by the sprinkler or controlled flooding irrigation methods.
The method used generally is governed by the crop. Under a high level
of management, this unit is capable of producing 22 tons of corn
silage per acre, 5.5 tons of alfalfa hay per acre, 4.5 tons of grass
hay per acre, 110 bushels of barley per acre, or 80 bushels of oats
per acre.
This unit is well suited to recreational development.
This unit is well suited to homesite development. If the Barx
soil is used for septic tank absorption fields, the limitation of
moderate permeability can be overcome by increasing the size of the
absorption field.
,_..
This map unit is in capability subclasses IIe, irrigated, and IVc,
nonirrigated. It is in Semidesert Sandy Loam M326 range site.
~' r,~
