Section 785.19(c) Continued.
•
ing from the haying process. Irrigated fields north of the flood-
plain are bordered on the north by dry sagebrush pasture land which
appears dark green in color. The boundary is abrupt. The bluff
separating the upper fields from the active flood plain has an
irrigation ditch traversing it on the upper contour. This water
source has maintained green plants (appearing red) along the slope
beginning at about the right 1/3 of photograph 359 and extending
left to the center of photograph 360. An irrigation ditch also
traverses the north edge of the field. It does not appear to have
water in it. Most of the fields have been cut for hay. Non-
irrigated areas within the fields are distinguished as high ground.
•
above the level of the irrigation ditch when viewed in stereo, as
well as having the color and general appearance of the upland
sagebrush-covered land. The remainder of the active floodplain is
probably grazed pasture appearing red or green in color. Red areas
support green herbaceous plants while the green areas have both
herbaceous plants and a cover of silver sagebrush. The red hues
indicate that there is sufficient soil moisture to maintain photo-
synthesis. This moisture is probably supplied through flood irri-
garcon.
Bolton Draw is the third subject area. It is located on photograph
358 in the lower left quarter and appears as a linear feature,
about 1(8 inch wide, beginning just to the east of the existing
mine and extending to the northeast to the Canadian River. The
scream channel meanders in the floodplain from about an inch from
the bottom of the photograph to within a ~ inch of the Canadian
River w'nere the floodplain narrows. White colored areas parallel-
ing the active floodplain are indications that a large amount of
bare ground is exposed. Due to the fact that these areas are only
slightly elevated from the floodplain, they are probably saline
flats where the drainage is traversing shale deposits. The red and
I
785-24
