• ~ ATTACHMENT B
70
NOTICE OF INTENT TO EXPLORE INVOLVING REMOVAL OF 250 TONS OR LESS OF COAL
Site Description
The topography of the area where West Eik Coal Company proposes to
conduct drilling operations as shown on Attachment A is generally flat
in the northern portion. The southern portion rises to a fairly steep
hillside rising from 6100 feet above MSL to about 6300 feet above MSL.
Topsoil in the area is generally of a rocky Fughes loam type.
Vegetation in the area is of the mixed shrub variety.
• During collection of environmental baseline information for the Mt.
Gunnison Mine, a large area including the proposed drilling site was
surveyed for the presence or potential presence of threatened or
endangered species. None were found and none are expected to be found
in the vicinity of the drilling sites. Please see Tables 2.5.6.A and
2.5.6.8 as well as Section 2.3.7 of the Mt. Gunnison Mining and
Reclamation Plan.
The site is located to the south of the North Fork of the Gunnison River
and just west of Sylvester Gulch. It appears from previous drilling,
site observations and records from We]1 B-16 (destroyed in 1981 during
construction of the mine site) that the site consists of low
permeability colluvial deposits overlying the Mesa Verde formation.
