36 <br />seed is wind dispersed and seed must have accumulated in the drifts <br />on this particular runoff plot. • <br />The total vegetative cover is the lowest in the treatment where <br />only shrubs were seeded and the cover value for the volunteer species <br />is also the highest in this treatment for both sets of plots (Tables <br />11 ar.d 12). The treatment that involved the seeding of shrubs, <br />grasses, and forbs with no mulching (Tablle 11) had an intermediate <br />total vegetative cover value and a relatively low volunteer species <br />component. High values for total vegetative cover and the seeded <br />herbaceous cover species occur in the treatment seeded with shrubs, <br />grasses, and forbs - mulched and fertilized on both sets of runoff <br />plots. Fertilizer may have increased cover values of the seeded <br />herbaceous species slightly (Table 11); however, mulching is the <br />management practice that enhanced the establishment of the seeded <br />herbaceous species the most. <br />• <br />• <br />
