zo
Seed scarification treatments influenced subsequent seedling •
emergence of titer milkvetch. There was an average of 19 seedlings
per 10 feet of row for the non-scarified treatment and up to 40
seedlings for the scarified treatments. There was no difference
between the to-ro selections in response to the scarification treatments.
Seed scarification is a known must in spring plantings of cicer milk-
vetch. Even in this study where the seed was subjected to a freezing
and thawing environment in the soil over the winter scarification was ,
beneficial.
Seedling emergence counts for the cicer milkvetch study that was
seeded in October 6, 1975 were made on June 10, 1976. Specific
questions about the data or the sampling methods in this study should
be directly to Dr. Charley Townsend; Agriculture Research Service-USDA;
Colorado State University; Fort Collins, Colorado 80523.

•
