EXHIBIT HâWildlife Information
(a) The proposed permit area currently is vacant rangeland. The Garitia-Platoro complex
soil is limited for use as wildlife habitat because of low vegetative production. On non-
irrigated areas, these soils are best suited to habitat for such wildlife as antelope,
jackrabbit,cottontail, and coyote.
Nonirrigated areas of the Graypoint gravelly sandy loam also have limited use for
wildlife habitat because of low vegetative production. Wildlife that inhabits areas of this
soil type includes jackrabbit, cottontail, and coyote, along with various rodents.
(b) The only seasonal use of the proposed permit area would be during the antelope and
small game hunting seasons. Since the proposed permit area is located on private
property, the impact on the various hunting seasons would be minimal, as hunting
activities for the general public would not be allowed at the site.
(c) Mr. Kirk Navo, a representative with The Colorado Division of Wildlife, Monte Vista,
Colorado office verified that no critical or important wildlife habitats or wildlife species
would be impacted by the proposed operation.
(d) Due to the limited suitability of this soil type for vegetation the general effect of the
proposed operation on the existing wildlife would be minimal. Excepting the actual pit
structure, reclamation and revegetation would return the proposed permit area to the
approximate previous state as far as wildlife habitat. There are no surface waters or
impoundments of any kind located within the proposed area of operations and as such
interference with migratory routes, food or habitat resources would be limited.
