•
(e) Approximate timetable to describe mining operation;
Mining and crushing activities will commence upon completion of the entire permitting
process, which is anticipated on or before December 20,2000. Mining is anticipated to last 5
to 10 years with an initial immediate production of 125,000 to 200,000 cy during the first, year
(approximately 3 to 4 excavated acres to average depth of 25 feet BGL).
(1) As stated in (d)above, several crusher mobilizations will be required to fully develop
the excavated pit area. Depending on market demand, each stage or phase of
production may require up to 12 months or more in order to excavate the 3 to 4 acres
mentioned above.
(ii) As alreadv stated, approximately 3 to 4 acres may be mined during each stage or
phase of activities at the site(phase or stage being a crushing equipment mobilization
to the site).
(iii) Actual mining/excavation activities will commence at the ramp location shown on
the Mining Plan Map(at east permit boundary)and progress south then west then
northwest and finally back to the northeast. If slightly more than 3 acres are
excavated during each crusher mobilization then approximately 10 to I I years will
be required to fully develop the pit. If less than 3 acres are mined during each
crusher mobilization or market demands are low, 15 to 20 years may be required to
fully develop the site.
(f) Narrative describing nature of deposit to be mined and underlying stratum.
(i) Test pits, excavated at the proposed permit area to nominal depths of 13 feet BGL,
have shown a silty loam topsoil with an average thickness of S to 12 inches
underlain by rocky/sandy/gravel material. The gravel material is composed of
tabular, elongate, subangular to subrounded rock fragments and cobbles(2cm to
30cm), deposited in layers, with approximately 10"0 to 15%very fine to coarse sand
and small gravel (2-20mm). Rock and cobble material consists of local country rock
composed of andesite and latite. The topsoil is the overburden material to be
removed and stockpiled as explained above in (a).
(ii) Stratum immediately beneath the material to be mined (depth greater than 25 feet
BGL) is similar material, mixed alluvium and mountain outwash deposits composed
of interbedded sands, gravels and clays typical to the northern San Luis Valley.
(g) Identify the primary and secondary commodities to be mined and/or extracted and describe
the intended use.
The primary commodity to be mined and/or extracted is rock/cobbles to be crushed for road
surfaces and backfill material. In addition to crushed rock material, straight pit run and base
fill material will be produced without processing through a crusher spread.
(h) Name and describe the intended use of all expected incidental products to be mined and/or
extracted by the proposed operation.
Products to be mined and/or extracted by the proposed operation will be: crushed rock for
base grade, backfill and asphalt material. Pit run and fill materials for subgrade, backfill and
base grade use. Sand and gravel for base fill and drainage fill type material. The intended use
of these materials will be as base course and fill material for road construction activities.
