PAR RSSPONSR
mining land use. Fencing of the area is not required at this time;
• however, if fencing is required for the reference area, it will be
done in a manner to reduce edge effects.
Empire Energy will implement a monitoring program to evaluate
revegetation success to determine if the revegetation of each site
is proceeding in an acceptable fashion. Each site will be
inspected during the 3rd year after seeding and the final two years
before bond release to determine revegetation success. Comparisons
between the revegetated areas and the reference areas will be made
for the following parameters:
- Herbaceous cover and production
- Woody species density
- Species diversity
Herbaceous Cover and Production. If the comparison between the
revegetated area and the reference area, with proper sampling
• requirements met, indicates that the herbaceous cover and
production of the revegetated area is 90 percent of the herbaceous
~ cover and production of the reference area with a 90 percent
statistical confidence then successful revegetation has been
demonstrated.
Woody Species Density. The success criteria for reestablishing
woody species density will be 1,000 stems per acre.
Species Diversity. The Shannon-Weiner Diversity Index will be used
to evaluate species diversity. Cover will be used to develop the
index. Data obtained from the 1981 sampling program indicated that
H = .8 for the south facing slope area (sample area B) . Data
collected from the 1981 sampling program presented in Table 2,
1981, Sampling Program Data, demonstrates how the value for H was
obtained.
•
6R
Revised 11/3/89
