Care will be taken to keep all <br />• unnecessary vehicles off the topsoil once it is spread over the area. <br />after topsoil redistribution, the material will be analyzed to determine <br />if amendments are necessary to maintain its fertility. <br />Revegetation to Appropriate Land Use <br />The Williams Fork Strip Pit area will be returned to a rangeland/ <br />wildlife habitat land use. As such, it will be reseeded with the <br />rangeland/wildlife seed mixture. This seed mixture is presented on <br />Table 1, Williams Fork Strip Pit Seed Mixture. The area will be planted <br />with a rangeland drill at the rate of 17.25 pounds PLS/acre. However, <br />if the seed mixture is broadcast seeded, the seeding rate will be <br />doubled. A straw mulch will be applied over the area at the rate of two <br />(2) tons per acre. The mulch will be secured by crimping or tacking. <br />Contour ditches or furrows will be constructed on the reclaimed slopes. <br />• These ditches or furrows will be approximately 20 to 50 feet apart and <br />have check dams placed at periodic intervals. The ditches or furrows <br />will help control erosion on the reseeded surface. The ditches will be <br />maintained until the vegetation becomes established. In time, they will <br />fill in with sediment and blend into the reclaimed topography. <br />Revegetation Success Criteria. Since portions of the Williams Fork <br />Strip Pit area were redisturbed after May 3, 1978, two (2) revegetation <br />success criterias apply to the area. These are 1) Pre May 3, 1978 and <br />2) Post May 3, 1978. All disturbed areas and their dates of disturbance <br />are shown on the Reclamation Plan Map (Map 29). <br />Post May 3, 1978. A reference area has been established to evaluate <br />revegetation success. This reference area is shown graphically on the <br />Vegetation Map (Map 20). The reference area is also considered to be a <br />baseline sampling area. With this in mind, no statistical demonstration <br />is required to prove equality (cover and production, woody species <br />. density, and diversity) between the reference area and the baseline <br />area. The reference area will receive the same management as the <br />surrounding area and will be reflective of the rangeland/wildlife post- <br />-3R- <br />
