Pikes Peak Ave., Suite 305, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 • 719-634-6902 • FAX 719-634-0660
and Associates /nc.
October 19, 1993
Mr. John Valentine
Soil Conservation Service
Spring Center Building
1826 East Platte Avenue, Ste. 114
Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909 -
Re: Dellacroce Gravel Pit State file # M-93-050
Deaz Mr. Valentine
]Ct G;? rygJ
In your review letter of June 17, 1993 regarding the referenced project, you noted the presence
of diffused Knapweed encroaching the site and recommended the owner/operator adopt a weed comrol
program. The Board of County Commissioners have now made this a condition to their approval of
the Special Use Permit. Also, an inspection by the Division of Minerals and Geology has yielded
similaz comments. We have discussed your recommendation with the landowners, Raymond and
Robert Dellacroce and they understand your cotrcem for inhibiting noxious weed growth.
Robets Dellacroce insides on the tatlch and is primarily responsible for the operations.
Robert has attended local seminars focusing on the knapweed species and has received EPA
certification for private use of pesticides and herbicides. The previously reclaimed area above (west
of) the site has received a Banville treatmem once during the Spring season of 1993. Mr. Dellacroce
intends to utilize different herbicides for the next growing season, according to his current certification.
Grass seeding has been implemented to provide competition for the ICnapweed, and the lower pastures
are also grazed. Topsoil will not be removed or relocated from the proposed site, thus reducing the
possibility of seed spreading during operations.
We understand that the next step of a weed control program is an exchange of information
between the landowner and the local regulatory officials. Please accept this letter as the applicant's
initial offer of compliance and forward to the proper County agency. If you have specific questions,
please contact Robert Dellacroce at his residence, (719)'181-2452.
Yours tnily;
~~~~~,~~
Mazk L.
