INTRODUCTION
The 19 Road Pit is to be a small wet sand and gravel operation to mine no more than 255,000 tons
during a 16 month interval on a total permit area of 9.75 acres. The existing area is a ranch north of
the Colorado River and east of the town of Fmita on 19 Road Creek in Mesa County, Colorado. The
gravel is approximately 15-16 feet thick below a layer of topsoil/overburden of 4'-6' thickness. The
current land use is dry range with a number of ranch structures and corrals but the post-mining use
will be part wetland and lake for wildlife habitat and part of the land will be restored to dry
rangeland. This azea has been selected because the site has good quality gravel reserves without
lazge overburden thicknesses.
The permittee is Oldcastle SW Group, Inc. dba United Companies of Mesa County. In many
instances in the application, the name is shortened to United Companies.
The 19 Road Pit permit land is on a private parcel owned by Robert & Karen Rigg and Gerald &
Mary Ann Mudge, who have leased the land and water rights to United Companies for the sand and
gravel mining.
Final reclamation will also be done promptly after mining is completed. United wlll work with the
County, the landowner, CDMG and the CDOW office in Grand Junction to make the restored land
the best possible for i[s intended use.
19 Road Pit 10102
